Volvo recently announced they are partnering with Microsoft to bring Skype for Business to its new 90 Series vehicles like the new S90 luxury sedan, making Volvo the first carmaker to introduce an in-car collaborative productivity app. Skype for Business is used by millions of people around the world to conduct meetings, share important information and collaborate on projects.
“We’ve all been there. Sitting in the car trying to join a conference call. You either fumble with or drop your phone while trying to connect or you forget the long pin code to join. It’s not the best way to start an important call in the car,” said Anders Tylman-Mikiewicz, Vice President Consumer Connectivity Services at Volvo Car Group. “On top of all that your attention is not where it should be – one the road.”
Skype for Business in Volvo 90 Series cars looks to get rid of those issues, allowing owners to view upcoming meetings, see participant details and join meetings with just one click on the large center touchscreen display. Volvo’s goal was to make its customers’ lives easier and safer by using the latest technology from leading companies in a smart way.
“Volvo Cars is leading the way in its recognition that the nature of work is increasingly mobile. People need to be productive from anywhere – including their cars,” said Ben Canning of Microsoft. “We’re thrilled to extend modern meetings to Volvo cars.”
Volvo is working together with Microsoft and Ericsson to provide reliable cloud-based solutions for its vehicles, and there are plans to expand the number of services offered in the future. Volvo and Microsoft are also considering bringing the Cortana intelligent personal assistant to Volvo vehicles for seamless voice recognition and easy access to cloud-based services and information.
Skype for Business will be available on the Volvo S90, V90, V90 Cross Country and XC90 SUV. For more information about Volvo vehicles and the latest in-car technology, come see us today at Volvo San Diego.
The 2017 Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine exceeds all expectations when it comes to power and efficiency in a luxury SUV. No other SUV in the world can match the XC90 T8 Twin Engine’s combination of smooth power, low fuel consumption and low emissions. The XC90 also can seat seven comfortably and offers the latest advanced safety technology.
By using an efficient, yet powerful turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine combined with an electric motor, the XC90 T8 Twin Engine can accelerate to 60 mph in just 5.6 seconds while also achieving 54 MPGE on the highway and 53 MPGE in the city when in the default hybrid mode.
“We have been working hard to earn our competitive edge and to give our customers the ultimate combination of performance and low fuel consumption,” said Dr. Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President of Research & Development at Volvo Car Group. “Our Twin Engine technology has enabled us to build on our heritage of efficient powertrain development in a completely new way.”
Many Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine owners may never even need to use gas in their daily commute thanks to an all-electric driving range of over 25 miles. When the battery runs out of charge, the Drive-E combustion engine starts up automatically and can be used to recharge the battery for use later using the vehicle’s ‘Save’ mode.
Switch to ‘Power’ mode and drivers get to experience the instant torque and response of the electric motor in combination with the turbocharged and supercharged gasoline engine. With 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque, the XC90 T8 has more power than many V8-powered SUVs.
The 2017 Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine Plug-in Hybrid is available in three different trim levels – R-Design, Inscription and Excellence. Each offers a unique driving experience, ranging from sporty to luxurious. If you would like to learn more about the 2017 Volvo XC90 and take one for a test drive, visit us today at Volvo San Diego.
Volvo’s newest vehicles, the S90, V90 and V90 Cross Country, are all following in the footsteps of the XC90, which has won over 100 awards since its launch. The S90 sedan and V90 wagon have already won numerous awards and are finalists for the 2017 Car of the Year awards, which the XC90 placed second in last year.

The Volvo S90 has already won the prestigious Red Dot Design Award and been voted the 2016 Car of the Year by the Association of Finnish Traffic and Motoring Journalists. The V90 was recently named the Estate of the Year and the Car of the Year 2016 by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers, and was named Best Estate by TopGear Magazine.
Like the award-winning XC90, the S90 and V90 feature elegant styling using Volvo’s new design language, including the iconic “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlights and the Volvo Iron Mark insignia. The interior is modern and stylish, with premium materials used throughout and unique features like the air blade A/C vents and available Orrefors crystal gear shifter.

Every currently available Volvo model has been recognized by the IIHS for safety, from the S60 sport sedan to the luxurious XC90 SUV. A report from August this year by the IIHS showed that cars equipped with the Volvo City Safety suite of safety features were able to reduce rear end crashes by 43 percent and those with injuries by 45 percent.
For 2017, the Volvo S90 and XC90 will include large animal detection with automatic emergency braking, which is designed to prevent or mitigate accidents on the road. These safety features are all part of Volvo’s Vision 2020, which is the company’s goal that no one will be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo car by the year 2020.
“Volvo’s commitment to safety is crystallized in our Vision 2020,” said Lex Kerssemakers, President and CEO of Volvo Car USA. “Our new cars prove that luxury, style and performance can perfectly compliment world-leading safety.”
Additional safety features available on Volvo cars and SUVs include Adaptive Cruise Control, Pilot Assist, 360 degree Surround View cameras, Driver Alert Control with Rest Stop Guidance, Active High Beam Control, Blind Spot Information System and Lane Keeping Aid, among many others. Volvo is making some big improvements to the S60 and V60 Polestar for 2017 with the addition of an all new powertrain, which includes a 362 horsepower version of the Drive-E four-cylinder engine. California has quickly become the world’s top market for Polestar vehicles, with the majority of sales coming from Southern California.
“The Americas markets, particularly the U.S. and especially the Western region, are very strong for both Cross Country and Polestar,” said Lex Kerssemakers, President and CEO of Volvo Cars USA. “Polestars are driver’s cars for the educated enthusiast seeking something unique.”
What makes the 2017 S60 and V60 Polestar unique is their excellent performance combined with real world drivability for every day and every season. The new powertrain has reduced weight and increased performance, and both cars can now do 0 to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds and have a limited top speed of 155 mph, but still achieve 20 mpg city and 27 mpg highway fuel economy ratings.
To get more power and performance out of the already capable Drive-E engine, Volvo added a bigger turbo, a supercharger, new conrods, new camshafts, a larger air intake and a higher capacity fuel pump. Volvo has matched this incredible engine with a BorgWarner four-wheel drive system and a Polestar-optimized eight-speed Geartronic automatic transmission.
The 2017 Polestar models have better weight distribution than previous model years, with 53 less pounds over the front axle and 44 pounds removed from the total vehicle weight. Additional new features for 2017 include a new 20-inch lightweight rim, Polestar calibrated electro-assisted power steering and a new slotted brake disc.
Volvo plans on expanding the global reach of the Polestar brand in 2017 as well, expanding the number of markets where Polestar vehicles are sold from 13 to 47 and doubling production volume. Around 200 Polestar S60 and V60 models have been allocated for the Americas markets in 2017.

Volvo Car USA was honored by IntelliChoice in their 18th annual Certified Pre-Owned Car Awards. IntelliChoice is the leading provider of automotive cost and value analysis, and awarded Volvo the Best Premium Program award and Best Premium Warranty Award at this year’s conference. Volvo has won the award for the Best Premium Certified Pre-Owned Program for the past nine years.
“Volvo sets the standards for a CPO Program, having won the CPO Award for Best Premium Program nine times in the last ten years,” said Eric Anderson, Director of Data Products for IntelliChoice. “Volvo provides its customers with high quality vehicles, best-in-class warranty, and regular special financing incentives.”
When you purchase a Certified Pre-Owned Volvo, you know you are getting the best of what Volvo has to offer. Every vehicle must pass a rigorous 130-point test, have less than 80,000 miles and receive a clear CARFAX Vehicle History Report. Volvo will also repair or replace any components as needed, and will complete a road test to ensure everything is working properly.
The comprehensive inspection covers all aspects of the vehicle, including mechanical and cosmetic components. Volvo will make sure that all of the vehicle’s key safety features are in perfect working condition, including the brakes, air bags, seat belts, exterior lights, tires and wheels.
The factory-backed warranty is also one of the best in the industry, as it covers every part of the vehicle not specifically excluded for 7 years or 100,000 miles. The Volvo Certified Pre-Owned Warranty also includes free roadside assistance and a zero deductible for all warranty visits.
Volvo Cars wants to make life less complicated for drivers and is releasing an all-new connected-car technology app that can end the need for inconvenient trips to the gas station, car wash and more. The Volvo Concierge Services app gives Volvo owners access to an entire ecosystem of services right from their smartphones.
The new app expands on Volvo’s current On Call connected car app that gives remote access to your Volvo’s door locks, fuel level, parking location, maintenance information and more. A pilot program for Volvo Concierge Services is scheduled to begin in the San Francisco Bay area this year, and will allow 300 invited drivers of Volvo S90 and XC90 luxury vehicles to order services such as fuel delivery, car cleaning and vehicle maintenance.
“Volvo Concierge Services will mean that you never have to stand out in the rain to fill your car again,” said Lex Kerssemakers, President and CEO of Volvo Car USA. “At Volvo Cars our mission is to make life less complicated, and this is a great example of how in-car technology can be used to deliver this.”
The service works by providing one-time-use digital keys that are location and time specific to authorized service providers so they can access your vehicle. When the services are finished, the car is locked and the digital key expires. Owners have the choice of having their vehicle returned where they left it or delivered to a new location at their request.
Volvo owners will be able to have their vehicle’s tank filled, have their car cleaned or have maintenance performed at a Volvo dealership while they are working, sleeping or out of town. Volvo has partnered with services like Filld fuel delivery to make sure its customers receive the best possible service, and is inviting other companies to join its ecosystem.
